DIY Home Acoustic Treatment on a budget!

Postby Zukan » Fri Jan 04, 2019 11:42 am

A lot of people here ask about home studio acoustic treatment - what to use, how to use etc...So, I decided to resurrect an old series of tutorials I created when I had my home studio treated. Studio Support Gnome (Maxeth) and I built everything ourselves. If I as a muppet can do this then you can do it better.

The total cost of the project was less than £1000 and if you look at the final pictures of the studio you will see that it is comprehensive and thorough.

This is a 3 part series so make sure to clock the others in the series.

I hope this helps.

I have resurrected this from an old posting as all the images were lost.

Nice one Eddie, I first read it all a good while ago and the knowledge helped me turn my own 'studio' into a nice place to play/record/mix/listen to music.

Well done Eddie - I've just read all the parts again and everything makes perfect sense in a very practical way

It also shows just how much work can be involved, albeit mostly straightforward if you know what you're doing (which of course Max does in spades).

"When I say ‘build’, I actually mean ‘convert an existing bedroom into studio but tell people you are building a studio because it sounds a lot cooler than saying I’m working from a bedroom’. "

Double LOL - I’m hooked from the first paragraph. :D

Thanks for the link.

btw - here in Canada we are not allowed to say ‘chicken wire’ for some bloody reason. It’s ‘poultry netting’ now.
Who the hell were we offending with that? :headbang:

Chickens are essential in achieving that warm texture, much like Russ Andrews Important Cables.

Yeah, all rooms in my house are potential studios and when there are people around I often refer to my studio as The Mastering Suite.

Good resource, thanks for posting it again

I've been working on my room again recently so it's nice to have a browse through and reassure myself!
