Design a Scaff for Truss-mounting Genelec 8030s?

Postby n o i s e f l e ur » Sun Nov 03, 2019 9:38 pm

Hey all!

Further to my tale of woe as documented in this thread;

https://www.soundonsound.com/forum/view ... 24&t=68647

- I've decided the best way to proceed is to get some scaff / tubing more appropriate to the Genelec Trussmount Kit than to attempt to replace the clamps on the mounting kit itself. The reasons for this decision are fairly straightforward . . . first, it's the easier option, and secondly it seems a wash financially. In fact, I'll probably come out slightly ahead in that I'll have spare Jaspers hardware left over from the original plan which I'm sure i can find a use for.

So - the original design was a fairly simple single horizontal member (which would have the monitors attached via the truss kit), supported by two vertical members* - with these verticals in turn braced either side.

^ Something like that - except the bits on either side of the middle structure don't (of course) actually stick out to the side like that, rather they project forward to actually, you know, provide bracing / support.

Now, on to my actual questions regarding proper 48mm scaff and connecting hardware. At the bottom of this page;

https://www.10outof10.co.uk/acatalog/Sc ... _Arms.html

There's the Doughty T10400 Long Tee, which looks like the correct hardware to attach the bracing to the central structure. Does it seem feasible that I could use longer bolts with these to attach the Jaspers (https://www.jaspers-alu.de/aid-725-Alu- ... black.html) tubing?

Better still would be some sort of adaptor / sleeving - does such a product exist, or is the Jaspers stuff completely non-standard?

I'd humbly welcome a critique of my proposed design / plans before I waste any more money!

* Yes, yes . . . I know. Simmer down there, you at the back!

Ooops!

Should have checked after posting . . . attempt at ASCII art . . . no bueno!

TBH it's really not rocket surgery, I should really just order enough of the stuff to do the job and be done.

Might be back with questions about oven-dried sand or other suitable ballast later on, however!
