references found along the way to acoustic treatment knowledge

Sometimes you find what you're looking for when you look for something else. As much as this is to share things I've run across in my research and aid the like-minded, it's also a way for me to keep track of them. Some are good, some are trying to be good, all have helped me sift. so thanks to SOS for letting me freeload.

As these sites have come from USA based searches, much of the content may be different from the rest of the world. I dunno. Take, add, whatevs. The bolded one surprised me.

I can highly recommend Acoustics And The Performance Of Music [ISBN 9780387095165]. Great book, a good all-rounder on acoustics, and also has some fascinating graphs showing the radiation patterns of orchestral instruments.

It is a fascinating book, but the acoustics reference is more to do with the way venue acoustics are designed and optimised to enhance the performance of music, rather than suggesting places to stuff rockwool... ;-)

I wrote a couple of articles about instrument radiation patterns back in the late 90s, using some of the information from that book, but presented in a much more user-friendly way... such as this one on brass and wind instruments:

I think I did another couple on pianos and strings instruments, but I can't find them on the site at the moment...

Time to re-wrap and republish that Hon. Dr. Hugh. Those graphics should be taught everywhere!

Thanks for the tip Korff...off to Amazon to purchase.
