Astatic 631L to USB | four conductor unterminated cable to USB

Postby SoundsFun » Sun Mar 29, 2020 5:44 am

Hi everyone -
First time poster. Much like the rest of the world, I'm quarantined at home, and as such need to move my studio to my home office. We run a YouTube interview show, and I'm looking to turn the following handheld mic into my TALKBACK mic: Astatic 631L

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... l/overview

I'm hoping someone can advise on how to adapt the "four conductor unterminated cable" into a USB connector, which in turn will plug into my mac computer for capture.

Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry. What you're hoping to do with that mic is not possible.

That microphone is intended for connection to analogue radio transceivers or PA paging systems etc. The USB input on your Mac expects a specific kind of digital signal that your mic can't provide.

If you want to plug a mic into a USB socket, buy a USB mic.

Thanks for the reply. What about a 3.5 mm headphone jack instead if usb?

I'm not sure a laptop or soundcard's mic input will have sufficient gain, but you could try wiring the black wire to the sleeve of the 3.5mm plug, and the white wire to both tip and ring.

Don't connect the red/green wires.

The manual for the mic is here: https://www.cadaudio.com/images/uploads/631l.data.pdf

Copy. Excuse my inexperience here, but can suggest the proper unterminated 3.5mm plug that I'd be attempting this wiring?

Also, if this was too soft, can you suggest a small preamp connector or something of the like?

Thank you!
