I'm pleased to say that every thing went well. The DS-8 is back up and running without a wall wart and is a lot cleaner too.
The main point of the exercise was to silence a squeaky key spring and make the velocities a lot more even across the keys, I think years of dust ingress was just making the whole action much less sharp. To get rid of the wall wart too is a huge bonus.
It now feels and looks like new!
