Best trap arrangement for weird angle

Postby gregims » Tue Mar 02, 2021 8:01 am

Hello, I just finished setting up a new home studio, and I was curious about the best way to set up some bass traps. There at some interaction angles where the wall behind my monitors meets the ceiling. Would I be best to try and get some wedge bass traps for these spots or just use a panel and leave air between the panel and angle to act as the trap. Having some issues attaching a pic, but it’s a narrow ceiling (maybe two feet across) with two walls joining it at >90 degree angles. Thanks!

I'd guess the length of the signal path through the traps is probably what makes the corner location most efficient but filling the voids can't do any harm. My conclusion, having done my own room with DIY panels and traps, is that the initial, basic stuff is what makes the biggest difference, as long as you don't go mad with thin panels stuck directly on the walls/ceiling anything you do will improve things. Getting bogged down in the minutia uses up time you could have spent playing music.

Let’s see if this works. Pic of the area:

Looks like the link worked. I’m also going to panel the sloping walls as well as the wall behind the monitors. It’s possible that will solve a lot of issues, but I was hearing such pronounced boominess that I had to wonder about those angles.

Good point. Going to panel the slanting walls and wall behind monitors, and I imagine that will help a lot. (Not going to cover every inch.) Before doing that it’s hard to conclude that the corners are causing the issues I’m hearing.

Not working here either.

Gregims, it looks like you've added a hyperlink to the Imgur gallery rather than a direct link to the image itself using the [img] tags.

If in doubt, the link you paste between the tags should always have a picture file extension at the end (.jpeg/.PNG/etc).

It catches a lot of people out, hence Mike making his video!

Was mostly surprised that shaking my fist and telling it to get off my lawn didn’t work.

I'd be inclined to keep it simple with rectangulat traps. One hangind down from the ceiling, a couple running parallel to the sloping walls and one behind your computer screen.

Sounds sensible to me. Standard shapes are much easier to work with and more flexible for the future.
