51st Anniversary On Guitar

Postby m1a1t » Wed Nov 16, 2016 10:31 pm

Hi, I have just learnt this Jimmy Hendrix song and it seems that it is in the Key of B major. Now my understanding of learning my major scales and pentatonics theory is that the pentatonic shape 1 when in Major should start down 3 frets (at the relative minor) which would be G#

But it doesnt, it works just fine and follows the pattern of shape 1 being at B so I am confused.

Please can you shed light on that for me. Many thanks. :headbang:

It's Jimi Hendrix and he bent space and time so normal rules do not apply earthling.

I'm not sure quite what you're saying, m1a1t, but it seems possible that it is in B and that JH will be playing a blues scale on B, whereas the same scale on G# will be a (roughly) major scale and not work.

Is that it?
