He has to be my all time favourite keyboard player, I’m hearing a lot of Brian Eno in there too, but it’s the other way around, he was a big influence on Eno, hence the track Zawinul Lava on Another Green World.
Joe Zawinul has a total mystery, and uniqueness about his playing, and if I’m feeling particularly down, like now, I always get lifted back up by listening to him play, and talk.
Around 101.24 on this video is pure genius, absolute pure genius.
I love his use of synths to give things a "big band" or otherworldly "orchestral feel"

Thanks for this link Tony - I've seen Weather Report live, and like you, Joe Zawinul is an all-time favourite keyboard player with his oh-so-distinctive signature sound.

Lovely to hear some 'behing the scenes' footage

Never saw them live but was a huge fan, particularly during Jaco Pastorius' tenure as bass player. Great band, must dig them out and listen again soon.
