Hi again,
after some helpful advice from this place, i had a tentative go at vocal doubling.

Quite specifically, in the soundcloud link, are any of the marked places what you may expect from such a technique?
I can hear obvious discrepancies but i somehow like that.

The context of the track: an art therapy project that has once again drifted into sound work. Therapy pictures don't always speak a thousand words so i went for the words direct...although obscure at times and very symbolic and explicit in others. The vocal is purposely prominent as a certain counselor struggles with words. Don't let that limit any candid comments.
I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea and the track as a whole doesn't need to be heard, and it's still a work in progress.

Thoughts as I listen.
I love the atmosphere on this!
Yes, arguably the vocals are a bit high if not for the specific use you've highlighted, but it sounds gorgeous.
I have no issue with any of the vocal doubling, it gives little bits of variety and candy.

Happy to sit here and just soak this in. :)

I'm enjoying it too!

I see what you mean about the vocals being prominent, but the current mix still works well in my opinion.

The atmosphere is lovely as well - it smacks of a late summer's afternoon, with insects buzzing sleepily about in the fading sunlight, and a distant stream burbling away in the background.

Nice work hooty2! 8-)

I was really enjoying floating along with this... and then the vocal hit me like a cricket bat in a darkened room! Definitely too prominent! ;) :D

I'd do three things: drop the vocal level dramatically; thin the lower mids of the vocal mightily; give the vocal reverb a much longer pre-delay.

But I do love the feel of this piece.

Thanks mightily folks, for going further than anticipated.
elf...sorry about bringing pain (i'll look into your advice)
I tried to show a snip of the vox eq & the master eq..(no luck) with cuts in the places elf mentions....
To spread the love...i really enjoyed working with the Boz digital Lab's "Gatey Watey" plug in here.
thanks to all

p.s. in lieu of learning how to add screenshots...here are the Fabfilter pro-R settings for the vocal:
brightness 10am
character 2am
distance 2am
space 4.04s/horns studio large
ddecay 3pm
st width 2 am
mix 25%

That's my go-to gate plug-in if I need one - VERY effective controls!

nb: the soundcloudlink is now deleted.
(mods: should this be noted earlier in thread to save peoples time?)

Done! MW

As mentioned, a work in progress and i noticed a rogue setting on the RX de-esser that i thought was a bad threshold on the revered gatey watey

MW: thanks for housekeeping.

And repeated thanks to all for feedback.

I made some changes to the 'tune' and then sent the counsellor a written transcript with the revised sound file:)
