A newbie here. For outdoor concerts, what are some effective ways to run cat5 cable from the FOH board to a digital snake? The distance no more than 100 meters. I'm guessing you're not setting it on the ground without some type of cover/protection. Is it suspended from poles? Thanks

It's done various ways:
    In a trench
    In cable ramps
In a barriered off run from stage to FOH - but probably also in a cable ramp

Don't think I've ever seen it suspended from poles.

IIRC suspension of a mains cable (which I assume you'll also need) above the audience needs a minimum height of of more than 5m* to comply with regs, so is usually not practical.

* More if there's the slightest chance of a vehicle passing.

Ethernet cable should always be solid. Only patch cables are stranded.

Do the test: take a 100 m roll of solid and the same stranded. Performance will be seriously degraded with stranded cable.

That doesn't matter for patch cables, as they're generally 60 cm or less.
