Stairville lighting set question

Postby gsc1ugs » Mon Apr 15, 2019 3:24 pm

Has anyone any knowledge of these lighting sets? I need to lights to move to the sound, but they light any fashion they like, its got to go with the rythmn of the music but cannot seem to make this happen with the settings, ive read the manual but they have mind of their own

Sadly, the sound to light function on any lighting unit is rubbish as far a synchronising with the music goes. For a start, the microphone in them probably cost 5p and they've probably not even put a filter on it! Worth noting that more expensive "professional" fixtures do not have this feature, as it does not work.

So, better ways are:
Lighting controller with built in audio input which you sent just bass drum to.

Pre program a lighting controller and sync it to your tracks (there's various software to do this from a laptop). Takes a lot of time to set up, but on a fully predictable show, can work very well.

Decent controller designed for real time operation (known a busking among lighting bods) with a real human operator, who can anticipate, as well as respond, to the music.

Using sound to light is the easiest way to have lights moving with the music. I used this feature for years with two NJD Spectres linked together on tripods each side of the stage.

I now have 2 ADJ 12P Hex lights and I manually control them with a Yamaha MFC10 foot controller and an ADJ Operator One DMX desk.
I can also just use the lights stand alone and control them with the small remote control supplied.
This setup lights the band well for small to medium gigs and I have the option of triggering
the light’s sound active programs, strobe, fade plus my pre programmed scenes in the desk.

I need 2 led sets, i cant muck about with controls due to my tribute madness act so if the music goes bump bump bump i want lights do the same then link one with dmx so they both do the same

Which Stairville setup do you have? I see there’s a few different ones on Thomann.

That’s a decent portable light rig. The sound active mode should work fine as you can adjust the sensitivity.
Link both light bars with a DMX cable, OUT of one into IN of the other
On the master light, set ‘SOud’ as per p38 in the manual
On the other light, press MODE until ‘SLAv’ appears

The light bars should respond to music.

Sounds like they’re in AUTO mode.
Once sound mode is selected on the master light, press SETUP then use UP/DOWN to select
the various sound programs (1-16).
The lights should be on static if no music is playing.

They shouldn’t do that.
Try the static colours to see if they work ok without interruption.
Press MODE until pr1 shows
Press SETUP
Use UP/DOWN to change colours

Also check DMX mode
Press MODE until d.001 shows
Lights should go off (awaiting DMX signal)

The lights should work fine from the unit’s control buttons but it may be worth getting the
infrared remote for them:
https://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_ip ... remote.htm

Works well but needs to be pointed at the light as it’s directional.
