Need help choosing between tops

Postby freddie.of » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:41 pm

I'm looking to get some new tops to go with a pair of b1800xps and I've come to two choices both from the same company but with quite a hefty price difference, the box pro Achat 112 MA and The box pro dsp 115. The achat pair would be about twice the price which I'm trying to justify given it's very promising reviews yet I'm struggling to see much difference in the specs that would justify me saving up the extra £400.

The Pro DSP speakers look too good to be true for the money (the 115 has 1400 watts and goes to 136 dB SPL all for £212!!!!) The Achat looks an altogether more professional box but still claims 131 dB SPL from 350 watts (RMS mind you so that could be equivalent to 1400 watts 'PMPO' if you are prepared to be creative). If you are spending that kind of money I'd dig a little deeper and buy Yamaha DXR10s or 12s which will pretty much certainly sound better and go louder in the real world.

My vote goes to RCF312a. I have a pair, can't fault them. £350 each at Thomann.

I've always liked RCF stuff, seems to be reasonable quality and quite a lot cheaper than the Yamahas.
