using DAW in live environment.

Postby Ryhad Laurentus » Sun May 24, 2020 1:28 pm

Hi everyone, thanks for your time.

A Long story cut short, I've built a DAW controller for studio/live use.
In the studio it's easy enough to "round the sound" with the usual techniques and equipment.
However during Live use, I'm encountering difficulties controlling so many samples and instruments in a balanced and effective way.
(My ideas > my competence :?: )

I've a million questions for the forums here, It's quite difficult to articulate clearly the issues i'm facing, so starting slowly..

1. Does anyone have any recommended online references (forums or otherwise) for live production techniques using DAW on stage?

2. Can anyone recommend any sample management software, if such a thing exists?
For example, I can use 2096 individual drum samples in my drumSequencer.
Until now, the process has simply been to create/select samples then chain normalize in
Audacity. I'm eager now to find a more sophisticated approach to managing on a much larger scale.

My questions further are quite technical re: FOH and signal chain.
For another day :)

Hope everyone is keeping happy and healthy during these trying times.

A video for context: aNCS in development.

My honest response is that I wouldn't use a DAW on stage.

But i would use performance software. My choice is Cantabile, and I couple this with some supporting control software.

Funnily enough I had read about Cantebile from another one of your posts here Elf.
I will try out the lite version absolutely! See what it is all about.
Something I was unaware of. Thanks.
Very interested in how it handles RAM management with bulk samples / vsti.

It takes a while to get your head around Cantabile, but once you do...

I've just released and explanatory video about one of the racks I've created and how it works with other hardware/software. Maybe it will help you:

Thanks! Appreciate the insight.

Do you know if it has OSC control? Or have seen it mentioned in the Forums?

OSC is nothing to do with either MIDI Designer, or Cantabile. No doubt you could put it to use, but it's not something I have any knowledge of. Maybe ask a question in Cantabile's forum?

I certainly shall, I'd never even thought outside of the DAW. I'm currently using Usine HollyHock4 as a OSC to MIDI converter. (from Microomputers via ethernet)
It wouldn't matter much, however the dream would be to eliminate the need for the medium..
