Small monitors/amp/speakers for my digital piano

Postby Hudson1984 » Tue Aug 04, 2020 6:55 pm

Thought I’d break this out of my other thread as it’s a separate issue.

I have a Roland fp-30 digital piano, I like it but it’s a bit poor on the speaker front. Would like to upgrade there if at all possible.

It doesn’t have a line out so I’m fixed on headphone jack.

What would you recommend? I’m not looking to go nuts, I have an acoustic piano for the “proper” stuff I.e playing to people when I’ve had a few. So it just needs to up the uumph factor and give a nice clear tone for lessons and practice which is what I tend to use the digital for

What would you go for?

would a pair of PreSonus Eris E3.5 be a good choice? i've seen them on sale for £69 and really tempted by want to be sure they'll work with my piano

If that's your budget you'll be hard pressed to do better around there i reckon.
Just double check that's the price for a pair, sometimes studio monitors are sold singly...

Yeah it’s for the pair, it’s not so much the budget, more a case of it seemed ideal and a decent price, if spending more gets more great as long as I’d need to extra.

I mean I have no need for anything costing £1000 as it’ll be lost on me, but case of finding the right pair for the right price, I’d be happy up to £200 I guess, more than that and I don’t think it’s worth it to me personally

Can you get in anywhere to listen to them? Other things to consider sub £200 would include Tannoy Reveal 402s and Mackie CR5-X.

Sadly not no not at the moment and I’m kinda keen to press go on something asap.

I’d be happy to go on the judgement of you lot to be honest.

As long as they work with my piano and sound half decent I’d be chuffed

If you're in the UK and buying over the web you can always send them back. But i'd be surprised if you did. ;)

https://www.kennysmusic.co.uk/hosa-stp2 ... jack-cable

this the correct wire to connect my headphone jack in?

thanks for all the help.

By all means, if i'm better off spending a touch more to get something better i'm all ears but if these guys will see me through a couple of years i'd be happy enough

Not quite the right cable there. You either want a stereo 1/4" to 3.5mm jack cable if you're going to use the aux-in on the front, or a 1/4" to dual RCA if you want to use the sockets at the rear. The 1/4" jack sockets at the rear are for balanced connections, which you're not currently planning on using.

Order placed, I did spend a little more and got the bluetooth version, this just allows me to use them for other things when i'm in the garage.

here's hoping they do the job :)
