I got the part about using rtpMIDI as virtual cables, I think that's the part I was missing, which "DAW" to use for this?

I use an mp3 playback software called OTSAV DJ. So any effect I should choose from the mx200 would need to be applied over the mp3 which is playing in the OTSAVDJ software.

I know nothing about DJ stuff - time for me to defer to others.

I am trying the TOUCH OSC bur they don;t have any live support so I am trying to go through their tutorials on their site here:

https://hexler.net/products/touchosc

but I am not understanding the instructions. I have the app installed on my iPhone. According to the instructions it needs to connect to the a "software" on the pc, this suggest to me that yes a DAW is needed?

I've had this *and* the CME.

With the Yamaha you have to keep the iPad connection software running in the background all the time to maintain the connection - the CME, once connected, stays connected IME. It's also much bigger than the CME (at least one of the plugs is), which I found to be troublesome on some gear.

So I would recommend the CME WIDI over the Yamaha.

You can also separate the two plugs of the CME. This may be an advantage, but so far I've found no use for the feature.

Oh, and if you're considering OSC, be prepared for a very steep learning curve. You will need to do some reading and get some simple examples working. I've had it working, but MIDI Designer was much easier - and didn't require anything beyond rtpMIDI at the other end.
