Focusrite VRM Box

Postby Mike Senior » Thu Oct 06, 2011 1:55 pm

I just finished posting a long review of the Focusrite VRM box on my site, because I kept getting asked about it by readers of the book, and I figured there might be some people on this forum who might also want to check it out. Here's a link:

Thanks for that Mike... I've been in 'shall I/shan't I?' mode on the VRM for a few months... you've helped me reach a decision...

I own the VRM box, and I concur with a lot of what Mike says... If you've already got a top-notch pair of headphones the VRM box could be worthy of 80 quid.

However, I personally don't have a problem with the software stability of this product, and maybe Mike's software issues are perculiar to his machine.

That's good to hear, and hopefully it's just a problem with that particular combination of interfaces. Sam had a few problems in this regard when he reviewed the thing for the mag, though, so perhaps it might be more than a one-off.

Mike I noticed you said when the VRM completely messed up your computer you had to revert to an image of your drive you'd made before loading it up.

That got me thinking - you and your colleagues test lots of software ... how often are you imaging your drive? My software can take up to an hour or more to image ... yours must be much quicker I imagine?

BTW - thanks for that hint about the freeware http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-isonesurround/ to help with stereo phone localization - I will check it out (after imaging my drive, of course)!
