SOS "chat room"?

Postby garrettendi » Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:03 pm

Just had an idea! I wonder if we could have a chat feature for when someone wants to talk in real time with others as well as posting on the forum.

The forum is better for long, in-depth discussion, but I could see a use for a chat room if someone needs something more "instant", or just to chat about random stuff!

Could also be useful for SOS meets if say, someone is outside the venue and wonders where everyone else is!

I don't think that would be practical -- not least because it would it require the addition of facilities to the website that the team simply don't have time for when there is still so much else to do with higher priorities.

That's fair enough Hugh! Thanks for your reply. I guess it was a poor idea! :)

Not a poor idea -- I can see where you're coming from. I just don't see it as something likely to get implemented anytime in the next millennium!

There is always third party hosted chat rooms, or even an IRC room. It wouldn't be "official" though and would be a pain in the bum to moderate.

Does anyone still even use IRC??? :headbang:

You can always PM people. You can PM more than one person at a time, so it's similar to a chat facility (if slightly clunkier).

Yes... the moderation aspect would be another good reason not to do it!
