I'm told you can add Russian Russian and every-other-type-of-Russian to that list as well.

Would that we all spoke Esperanto instead!

Give it a month and someone would start changing the spelling of some words and someone else would start raising his finger :D

Yeah, within 6 months we'd have Spanish Esperanto, Portuguese Esperanto, the French would be claiming that only L'Academie Esperanto can add new words, the Americans still wouldn't know what a 'u' is for and the British would be holding a vote to leave and reinstate English (probably the American kind following a dodgy golf-course deal).

Is this the right thread for my pet linguistic peeve - the modern American way of pronouncing "route" as "rout"? Drives me bonkers the number of times it happens in YouTube videos. I've even heard some people with English accents now pronouncing it as "rout". My wife sometimes looks at me strangely if I have the headphones on watching something on my mobile, and I suddenly shout out "ROUTE for f*cks sake!"

Get you kicks on Rout 66? I think not.

Almost equally annoying is the use of "box set" when what is meant is "boxed set".

This is what I tell myself. Especially when people pick me up on the little things I myself get wrong or mis-pronounce!

Seriously though, surely a "box set" is a set of boxes? A "boxed" set is a group of things put into a box? (I know this may be moot, with streaming meaning neither the box or the sets are physical objects, but in my head VHS boxed sets are still new-fangled!)

Yes, I'm with you; it is a 'boxed-set'... But these things are aimed mostly at people who watch Love Island... :bouncy:

It's what the young people watch on their televisual devices.

This is really interesting! When did the pronunciation change? Certainly well after Nat KC was singing about it...
