Magazine availability during isolation/lockdown period

Postby nathanscribe » Mon Mar 23, 2020 3:59 pm

Not the biggest problem in the world, I know, but I wonder if SOS have anything in place for people to purchase individual (print) copies of the new mag for delivery, while they're isolating, and in case of greater restriction of movement preventing getting to suitable shops.

Hi Nathanscribe,

SOS has always and will continue to sell Print issues from its online store/shop - see here: https://www.soundonsound.com/shop/magazine

We also sell individual Full Issue PDF magazines for instant download. There's a red Buy PDF Issue button on the Magazine listing below the front cover. See this month: https://www.soundonsound.com/magazine

Of course, the best option is to take out a DIGITAL subscription which gives a monthly Full Issue PDF + Web Access to online articles + Tablet app edition and all for fantastic value for money.

cheers,
Ian G

In all honesty, I'd go for the digital subscription or purchase of individual PDFs. No need for human contact anywhere along the chain! :-D

If you've not yet checked out the Full Issue PDF, here's a free April 2018 UK edition to peruse:

and here's a free North America April 2018 Full Issue PDF to thumb through:

Ah thanks chaps. Seems like digital is the way to go given tonight's announcement!

Are paper copies of the mag still able to be published (print worker and material availability etc.)?

If not, (or in the event of the printers shutting down) can/will the print subscriptions be converted to digital ones?

I suspect it's too early to be able to tell yet what the situation will be with the printers... but I've brought your sub translation question to Ian's attention.

I'm hoping it's not going to be an issue, but it's something to think about.

Hi Wonks,

Both our UK and North America printers have been in touch and say it is business as usual, and they have introduced distancing amongst staff. The benefit is that printing these days is a highly automated setup.

Same goes for both UK and US postal services - they are considered of national importance and both governments will keep post flowing.

If not, (or in the event of the printers shutting down) can/will the print subscriptions be converted to digital ones?

That's not going to happen, but SOS would obviously do what it had to do in such an emergency, but it is highly unlikely at present.

Anyone with a print sub can upgrade to a Print+Digital sub -- best email subscribe@soundonsound.com and our Subscriptions Manager will respond.
