I may have missed it , but I would think "Clients and /or Musicians, Plus tea making unpaid intern" would be high on the list ??

True; they're rarely as interesting as they think they are... ;)

There's more...

Guitar Tuner
Gaffa tape
Assorted mic stand extensions/drop arms/clips and that
Glasses cleaning cloth
Robot toy
Dog treats

Booze.

Torch and tape measure already taken but seconded with a vengance

Dog not allowed in my 'studio' (hairy mutley). She mopes on the landing instead.

A very useful boring device I bought for next to nixt (someone recommended it in another thread) is a mirror/led light combo on the end of a telescopic arm (the kind that looks like a 50/60s car radio aerial).
Used originally by mechanics to find lost screws, dropped spanners, and the like in the darkened bowels of an engine, it works superbly to identify I/Os and the like at the back of rack cases, behind synths and so forth without having to stress the back or hernia moving them.

One dog banned only during recording. Anything flute or sine wave-like meant instant howling singalong. Amusing the first few years, not so much when the deadline clock is ticking.

That sounds really useful (boring as all heck but that's kind of the point, isn't it?). Do they have a name so's I can search one out for myself?

Got one for myself at an indoor market in Mablethorpe. If all else fails that's the kind of place that will have them!

I thought of another item that's in constant use here... one of those grabby-pincer on a stick things. It's so useful for getting that plectrum from behind the racks. Useful for reaching the curtains behind the keyboard stand too!
