Erroneous subscription reminder

I’ve received an email “reminder” that my subscription is about to expire and asking me to renew it. In fact I renewed it for 12 months starting with the March 2020 edition, as is confirmed by looking at my account here.

So what is going on? Is it just a mistake or is this a phishing attack? The links look as if they are genuine, but I am suspicious. I’m certainly not about to click on any.

Any insights?

Mike

While waiting for one of the nice SOS folks to clarify, you might take some comfort from this relatively recent post where a similar issue is described:

https://www.soundonsound.com/forum/view ... 39#p685145

Whether that's related to your issue or not I don't know, but at the very least I'd initally put it down to a glitch in some matrix or other as these things do and can happen, albeit rarely.

I'm sure you'll get a proper response here soon

Hi Mike

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is not a phishing attack and is genuine, but it is indeed a mistake.

We seem to be having glitches in our email program not syncing up correctly with our user database. We thought we'd fixed the problem after last month's subscription "about to lapse" email reminders were sent incorrectly to some subscribers who had recently renewed their subs.

I have checked your account and it ends with the February 2021 edition and I can see that you have been a loyal subscriber for many years. Thanks for supporting SOS and apologies for the upset.

The Web Dev team will investigate today and try to find a fix that works to prevent this re-occuring.

regards,
Ian G

Just letting you know the problem hasn't disappeared.
I got one of these reminders today too.
No need to respond, as I'm ignoring it, it's just FYI!

Thanks for the heads-up. Our WebDev team will be truly happy (not) to hear this MailChimp problem is not fixed. :headbang: :protest:
