If you read the "Spam PM" thread you'll find out.

We all (I imagine) received the same 3 spam messages, and (I imagine) are now being deleted by the mods - so you probably caught the system midway in the cleanup. :)

We tried tweaking some settings in the background and accidentally created a loophole that was quickly exploited by a spammer abusing the PM system.

The spammer is now toast and the changes reverted.

Might be worth waiting 24 hours and then logging completely out of the site and signing back in again. It sometimes takes a while to flush the cache.
