I didn’t realise we still had regional accents or dialects here in the UK, everyone just sounds like everyone else.

And will we be eating in the front room, the lounge, the living room, or the sitting room? Is there a single room in the front of the house where we can lounge, live *and* sit together?

If I talked in my adopted mother’s Kent accent, she was 99 when she died, you wouldn’t understand much, I had remnants of that years ago, but it’s gone now, it was a deep mixture of what sounded like West Country, and Cockney.

(Originating from Barnsley), I find Paul’s delivery perfect. In fact I really enjoyed that reverb podcast it was top drawer. Sure not everyone will tune in as easily, but that’s real life. :D

I had to check that out, and I agree. Well scripted and delivered, although he sometimes accelerates a bit and pronounces phrases as one long word, which is a typical stumbling block for non-natives.

Well I had to go and check it out, so picked up the Reverb podcast and listened for a bit.

Didn't find anything untoward in Paul's diction - it was crystal clear and the words well separated.. For the record, I'm an Italian guy who learned most of his English in the land of the free, and still finds it very amusing when bulky men suddenly stop their activities for tea.

I'm sure that there's plenty of English accents I don't get at all (and probably even more Italian accents..) but Paul's isn't one of them..

I have to say I listened to this podcast a few days before this post and wasn’t aware of any problems.
I’ve just had a quick skim through again, maybe there are a few ever so slightly rushed sections but not so fast that it becomes indistinct.

I blame Brexit.

I have a "speaking to English people" voice which is the equivalent of the now unfashionable "telephone voice" and, like the 'phone voice, useful when bandwidth is limited (no offence) but which has made everyday communication a little more possible.

It took me a while.

There is a thing in large corporates, for which native British speakers are a bit of a disadvantage since in meetings people don’t understand them well; whereas the simplest, slower pronunciation and limited vocabulary of most of the non-native speakers allow for much smoother communication.

Plus of course the extensive use of local cultural references may not play well with people who have no idea about them. American English doesn’t seem to have either problem, partly because American culture is more widespread, but probably also because if necessary in the States people speak slower rather than louder. :lol:
