I had a spam from "dsp.shp" (0 forum posts) during this stage, and reported it a few days ago and purposely didn't delete it so it could be investigated.

The PM is still there, and the the account seems still active...

Sorry, but no - not for me.

As before still showing "2 new messages" which don't exist. I've tried logging out, closing browser, restarting browser & log back in again - but no change, still 2 new messages (Firefox on Linux Mint, if it makes any difference).

Unless, of course, it's a change that will take time to work its way through all accounts?

Hi Rob,

Can't replicate this on any browser or device I have access to so it might be cookie related. Delete the sosforum cookie and close and reopen your browser of choice, log into the SOS Forum and hopefully it'll be gone.

Hi Ian, makes no difference I'm afraid - still '2 new messages' ...also get the same with Chromium browser on Linux.

We don't have FF on Linux to test, I'm afraid. Do you have a non-Linux PC to check it on?

Yes, Windows 7 Home Premium again with Firefox - same problem, and again no difference after cookie/site data delete close/reopen/login. I don't have any other browser installed on that PC.

In the grand scheme of things it's not really a big issue for me - I think I can teach myself to ignore the message :lol:

I'VE GOT THEM BACK!

Awjoe found out how to do it and he tried it out on me. He sent me a message and hey presto! the spurious 3 new messages message is back. HELP!

Anyone else still seeing phantom PMs?

I've been ignoring the "You have 1 new message" notification for a couple of days, it is still there and I checked my PM's a couple of minutes ago to find a message from "Flippy" (my second IIRC, the first of which was presumably swept up by the mods) which I have just deleted. I've restarted Safari but the notification is still there.

May be unrelated but the "new post' flag on the forums doesn't always cancel when I've read the posts and I have to manually 'mark all posts as read' for the forum in question.I mention this only because I had assumed it was a Safari quirk as Safari is known to misbehave occasionally.

edit :- I've just logged in using Brave and the notification is there too...

It appears that sending or recieving a (legitimate) PM somehow causes the message about three phantom PMs to come back! Them wot tweaks the system are aware and are trying to find a lasting fix!

TBH I think this is now really an urgent problem. Some part of the system is not functioning as it should and there may be database corruption underlying it. When things don't behave as you expect them to then you can't be confident that other more drastic effects might not reveal themselves. Hope I'm wrong.
