To clarify here, in case any legit Yamaha employees are reading this, Zenguitar is referring to a spammer who registered with the name Yamaha. Only he has had his account erased, nothing to do with the many legitimate Yamaha personnel who read this forum and have not been banned of course.

It used to be, but GDPR rules that all out now. Companies can't pre-check boxes (opt in), it has to be a customer decision to opt-in and check the box, not to uncheck pre-checked(ticked) boxes.

Now that we're out of the EU it's unsure what policy will be adopted going forwards, but for now we're sticking with EU historical guidelines until further notice.

GDPR is enacted in the UK by the Data Protection Act, so unless and until they repeal that then we're still working to the same legislation.
As a frequent poster I would definitely like it to remain off! :D

Any idea of when we'll see a fix? Of course, I understand it must be low priority because the forum continues to run normally otherwise but it's really bringing out the Pavlovian side of my character [twitch twitch].

One more spam message by "Flippy".

This time duly reported.

I wonder how these morons can think that anybody interested in audio would visit, let alone buy, anything from them by sending these messages! The whole thing has a self-destructive, Trumpian flavor.. "make your loops great again"

Yep, just spotted/reported this. I don't understand it either, there can't be many people who are encouraged by these sorts of practices...

Thanks guys, he's banned now. I was able to kick him off the site to limit the damage.

Thank you to all who have sent reports in relating to this recent problem of PM spam and related threads in general.

I'm not acknowledging them individually else I'd be doing quite a lot of that, but it's definitely appreciated and until the problem been sorted out by the powers that be, keep them coming as and when needed; it really helps

Eddy can someone look into why there's no Spam in these "spam" messages.

I decided not to go to the chippy last night, and damn it I want some Spam

You don't need reverb, just stack two EQs together with a really long cable

As they were sent en-masse to everyone, they were administratively deleted in the backend. However, this process did not clear the notifications. It's being looked into.

Rumour has it that there is plenty to be found on the Internet but we've taken it off our menu as it's not very good for you ;-)

I do apologise, I was just joking that the messages didn't have the glorious food of Spam!

I am very much aware they are being deleted, and I thank you kindly for that!

EDIT: No unpleasantness was intended in any of the above messages

Just curious - is or was the foodstuff Spam a regular part of the Brit diet? We have no tradition of it here. The way it sometimes gets spoken of sounds like a love/hate relationship.
Over here for a certain generation I can think of the now out of favour spoonful of cod liver oil. There’s probably better examples.
