Need a vocalist! Remote or "live"!

Postby The Bunk » Sun Mar 10, 2019 6:40 pm

Hi Guys,
I've recorded a cover of a vintage Status Quo song that I was hoping to do the vocals for but, having had a throat operation, have found it's beyond me. So...I'm looking for someone to have a go for me, either remotely or at my place in SW London. I've got a decent home set-up and a treated room, recording into Reaper. I've done remote collaborations before and I usually put my work to "tongue-in-cheek" videos to go on Youtube!
....e.g. link here...:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed9BDrd ... XdEexgAJxz

The original...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDG11PDXAw4&t=31s

And this is a snippet of my recording the song in question:

https://soundcloud.com/alex-harris/back ... hOgNUnkqsk

Happy to cover costs / expenses / time etc. Same key (B) as the original. Fingers crossed...thanks in anticipation.

Just FYI without having to use the links, the song is Backwater by Status Quo from the 1974 'Quo' album, and you'll need to sing it in the same key as the original.

Hmmm. It's not a song I'm familiar with, but I've got a week off coming up at the end of March so might get some recording done then - in which case I could probably run off some takes for you.
But you may well get a better offer before then. :)

Thanks guys! It's not lyrically complicated (no surprise there I guess!) but it needs to be belted out. Drew, thanks, you're more than welcome to have a go...I've had one offer from someone in the vintage Quo fraternity; his Youtube stuff looks good but I don't know what his recording set-up is like whereas I get the impression you, er, might have a pretty good rig! And there's around 6 or 7 chords in it, including a key change, so you're not lowering yourself in any way! ;)

Edit...thanks for the tip Wonks !

Ha! If by 'pretty good rig' you mean 'knows how to hang a couple of duvets over a mic stand' then we might be in the ball park - otherwise I'm at almost the cheapest end of the cheap seats. :)
But if I spot a convenient moment when the better half is out and the neighbours aren't around I shall below into a microphone for you. :)

Thank you my good man! I'm going to put the full version up on Soundcloud soon as Wonks very kindly offers to critique my mixes, so I've done some tweaks which I'd like him to hear, even if it is before the vocal is added. I'll let you know

OK chaps, here it is....

https://soundcloud.com/alex-harris/quo- ... king-track

Wonks, I have tweaked according to your previous observations, thank you, but further feedback of course is welcome! Obviously the final mix will still be subject to the vox being added. Any other feedback from those who can tolerate 4-odd minutes of vintage Quo (honestly, they were pretty good at that time :round1: and it's a great solo from Rossi on this one) would also be welcome!

Drew, if you're OK to continue, probably best to PM on the way forward?

Sorry, have just realised a pretty blatant copyright violation with this. Mods please feel free to delete etc accordingly. Sorry!

Well that's certainly something I can work with. I'll try and get some time in when I'm on holiday and I'll get some raw wavs across to you.
But if someone else comes up with the goods beforehand I won't be offended. :)

Previous post vanished. Don't worry, Bunk, it's a copy (unfinished) and there have been loads of copies linked to here, the last one being Dave Bs Yazoo cover in the latest in the one synth challenge, to which no eyelid was batted.

Thanks Wonks and "phew!"...I know it can be a sensitive subject.
Drew, I eagerly await your contribution, thank you! There's been a couple of offers from various "Vintage Quo" Facebookers so I've welcomed them to have a go too, so let's see how it pans out.

Drew my fine fellow, I've had a vox done which I'm really happy with; you're still welcome to have a go yourself if you like by all means but some splendid chap in Northern Ireland has rescued me big time! Wonks you'll be getting a PM shortly ;) .
Thank chaps

That's good news, I've had a bit of a cold nagging at me the last couple of days and it can't make up its mind if it's going to go away and hit me full in the face. Given that I'm off work next week I think we can guess... ;)

It could be worse, it could actually be IN Peterborough. I speak from experience. Of both Manflu AND Peterborough.
