Sourcing tiny screws, nuts & bolts

Postby Elephone » Tue Jul 24, 2018 5:43 pm

Hello. I'm just wondering, now Maplins has gone(?) where do you source very specific sizes of tiny screws, nuts & bolts?

I need nuts and bolts that will fit a specific hole by fractions of a mm and they need to be longer than you'd usually find for the thickness of nut. They're larger than eye-glasses screws I need.

If I buy off eBay, I know I'll end up with 100s of nuts & bolts I'll never use.

Cheers.

Damn - I was going to suggest eBay, and you've already ruled that out :headbang:

However, I've bought quite a lot of screws/bolts/washers via various eBay outlets at very low prices, so as long as you don't go overboard you ought not to end up with wardrobes full of unwanted metalware ;)

I'd probably pop down to my local hardware shop - we still have a proper traditional hardware shop in town with rows of small drawers of goodies behind the counter. If they didn't have it I'd be looking at places like Toolstation.

We still have a "Model Shop" in our town. Sells airplane, ship and other model kits. I have bought M3 studding from them in the past and I am sure they keep a range of "BA" fastenings. I would bet you want 8, possibly 10BA.

Or, if you just want a few a watchmaker could probably make them on a lathe?

ToolStation and Screwfix have a very limited range (though for 4, 5 &6 mm A2 SS allen bolts and nuts ToolStation are incredibly cheap if they have the lengths you need).

Just how Tiny do you mean?
Metric screws down to M4 or slightly less are pretty easy as has been said.
Really small, probably Watch Part suppliers (look them up depending where you are based.)
What are they for, because apart from microphones, headphones etc, standard Metric screws should be fine.
A tiny box of assorted equally tiny screws will cost about £30.00.
