Transcribing CDs to MP3 - 3 helpful utilities

Postby Mike Stranks » Thu Nov 29, 2018 4:56 pm

Of late I've had to transcribe hundreds of CD tracks into MP3 format and index them. No big deal, but they've got a combination of either spurious gunk at the front or end of the filename or filenames that say 'Track 1' etc.. Before you ask, no; libraries such as Gracenote know not of these tracks' existence...

Three little free utilities have helped hugely:

1) Bulk Name Utility - allows you to manipulate the file name - eg. delete the first 5 characters; add extra stuff on the end etc.
2) Mp3tag - allows you to copy the filename into the tag information - and do much more besides.
3) Karen's Directory Printer- allows you to export all sorts of information from the directory tree structure either to print or as a file to be used in Excel etc. Brilliant for compiling lists of songs as a library list.

All three thoroughly recommended and have saved me oodles of time.
