Analog Synth Question

Postby frajen » Tue Dec 29, 2009 3:36 pm

This morning I decided to mess around with a software analog synth for the first time (in Ableton Live 8), and I stumbled on something that I thought sounded kind of familiar...

In the beginning of the D4L song "Laffy Taffy" there is a synthesizer that I am trying to get my Ableton synthesizer to sound like. (here's the song:

Here's a picture of the analog synthesizer parameters I am using in Ableton:

It's a sawtooth waveform with a LP filter and that's about as technical as I can really explain here. The rest of parameters I have been fiddling with, and I know bits and pieces about them, but I don't have a good enough ear to really figure out the difference between my synth sound and the "Laffy Taffy" synth sound.

This link has 4 notes of my synthesizer sound followed by 4 notes of the "Laffy Taffy" synthesizer:

Can someone please let me know what needs to be added/subtracted or what parameters need to be changed for my synthesizer to match the "Laffy Taffy" sound more? I know there's some kind of reverb/echo going on with the "Laffy Taffy" synth that I haven't even tried to figure out yet.

I'm sorry but I'm not really trained on this stuff formally.

Thanks for all your help!

Your youTube url is broken....

Listening to your clip, (assuming the phrase is repeated twice, 1 + 3 is yours, 2 + 4 is the real thing) you need to reduce the release time(s) on your version.

Hi Frajen,
I think you just need to add a short, fairly wet reverb.
