I have spent a good few months working on a few retro projects and it was rather wonderful to get reacquainted with Hollow Sun's products again. So I thought I would make a short post to encourage those that aren't familiar with Steve's products (Steve sadly passed away a few years ago) to check 'em out. I believe they are still available to purchase:

These instruments are a joy to use and sound amazing. No, really they do. Steve was a master of his craft. If you are after that retro vibe and want something a bit special, look no further.

The crazy thing is, they are exceptionally reasonably priced.

The Vox Continental and Vermona are my particular faves. Ooh, and RMI Piano. And the Novachord.

The Vox Conti is a thing of wonder and I haven't heard one better.

How could one pass up buying a synth called Broken? I was very impressed with the quality and just the entire thing, and it made me laugh.

Excellent review Martin! The Novachord is indeed wonderful. It offers some sounds that I don't think you can get elsewhere. Great if you want something just a little bit different in your music.

I hope more people check out HS products because they should be in every composer's plug-in library!

I still have Steve’s recreation of the EMS Synthi on my computer, written loads of good presets for it, it’s a plug-in for Reaktor.
Great guy, sad loss.

I also found myself looking at their website yesterday prior to noting this thread had re-started.
Possibly this thread is where I first heard of them but I didn't make a note of it at the time so forgot all about them.
In the meantime my tastes have gravitated more towards their aesthetic so I shall be taking a closer look.
Some of their products are such good value that there's little reason not to dip a toe in the water.

String synth discussion on SOS kb forum i smiled .
Steve's Zero G Nostalgia with its Crumar, Eminent 310u , Jp6, PolyMoog, Rs202 : String Synths section.

Alesis Fusion 8HD even now is the only workstaion for me simply becasue of Steve's involvement with it,
takes HollowSun sounds as well as having one of the best weighted keyboards.
Fusion's pianos i could alter to my taste : upuntil NI Noire no piano on any electric piano nor workstation i checked out measured up to Fusion HDs piano mangling.

Movie scoring I would rely solely on HollowSun as well as give 75% towards Steve's family (not to blow smoke up me ar**).


Steve's passing still cuts me up.
