Re: Self promotion
Yeah I can't see it either. Presumably not everyone has been added in yet.
...Or I'm just not "community minded" enough!

Re: Self promotion
The clue is in the only topic there which says: Not Activated.

That's because you should be looking at the forum index where you will see a sub-forum that say's 'Not Activated'
;)

Suspect that's mods and special people only though, nothing visible here.
Not that this matters of course, because it's inactive. :)
I should really go and do some work.

It was only visible for a while, very good promissory note, though. :)

I suggest setting the post count at 5000, to keep the riff-raff out. Wouldn't you agree, CC? :)

Ooh, fancy that, didn't realise I was over 5000. I talk too much.

Heads-up chaps. It's going to be early next week before we can make this new forum active to qualifying members.
The 'threshold' post count won't be set too high -- just enough to keep fly-by YouTubers et al away (who don't contribute to the SOS Forum and simply want to promote their site).

Going to try and keep me away with a 612 post limit??? ;)

Re: Self promotion
Will this be visible to the 'world' as with the P&IN board, or just to the old tossers like me who hang around the ML?

Sorry for the delayed response -- I've been working away and have only just caught up with this. I think it all sounds very promising. A members only subforum is definitely the right way to for, and with a minimum post count to ensure it's a benefit to genuine contributors and therefore impossible to spam.
50 posts sounds a little low to me. I'd be happier with a level of 100 (or maybe 613...no 614...no 615... ;-) )... but that can be debated later once the technology has been put in place.
It's definitely a good idea, though.

Just get the forum directly connected to my post count. I hope to one day make it so no-one can ever post on it!

Re: Self promotion
I have already written a Post Acceleration Spamalizer Program. It will grant you 1 more post than what Hugh has accumulated! That way you can get some sleep. (Unlike Hugh who must get by on 12 minutes of sleep a night in order to get a post count so high! :bouncy: )

Self-Promotion forum now open
OK, got there in the end.
Every forum visitor/member will be able to read posts in the Self-Promotion forum, but only registered members who have contributed 200 or more posts to the SOS Forum are able to post in the SP forum. This is to keep SEO spammers at bay and encourage greater participation in the main forums by registered members with post counts below 200, who we value fully, of course -- but a boundary had to be set at some threshold.
Note: SP posts will not show up in the forum's Latest Activity sidebar in the righthand column of Forum pages. This is deliberate, so that general forum post titles take precedence.
We haven't found a way to grant automatic membership to members who attain the 200 post count, so we'll rely on you sending a PM to one of the mod team and requesting that you be added to the SP group.
Enjoy it, and make good use of it to publicise what you are doing with your music, gigs, events, etc.
