Thoughts please
Over in the musician's lounge I mentioned a composition that took {cough} some time {cough} to complete.
I'm not sure I'd want to make any changes after all this time, but would be interested in what people think of it.
Although it's up on my SC page better quality files are:

Re: Thoughts please
It's lovely, worth all the effort.
If it were mine, I might try a more legato feel on the synth piano. But what do I know, I'm a guitarist.
Regards, John

Re: Thoughts please
Lovely Fol. My only suggestion would be to try adding some discreet (and maybe the odd eq'd) delays to the lead part. There's great reverb there, but sometimes a delay can give a bit more lift to a part.

Love it Will. Maybe clean the low end a touch. But epic!

Re: Thoughts please
That is very nice Will, I'd be tempted to agree with John and Dave, but there's a danger of losing its originality and drifting into advert-theme territory, so one to tread carefully with I think. Hope that makes sense?

Re: Thoughts please
I enjoyed that a lot. The only comment I would make is I wasn't so keen on the sound of the instrument that came in at about the 3 minute mark. Something a bit more cello-ish and flowing, maybe, and less boingy. But the interplay of the parts was very well done. I shall listen to this again and pass it on to Anne to have a listen.

Just listened through, and I really like it too!
The only thing that began to grate by the end was the breathiness of the vocals, which (to my ears anyway) seemed to clutter up the mix, as it was there all the time, like an ocean coming and going. I'd love to hear the mix with more 'ebb and flow' of this breathiness, or even muted a little.
Great work though! 8-)

Re: Thoughts please
It's a nice sequence and mood but I have a problem with the lack of direction in the lead part which sounds a bit noodle-ish. More melodic structure in the top part would be my thought.

"... but you can't please all of the people all of the time". Such a lot of different reactions, thoughts and comments, pretty well the only common point being that we all basically like it. I think that counts as a score draw at the very least! :)

I'm, back :bouncy:
Been feeling a bit meh the last couple of days, so in view of the miserable cold wet weather (after massively over hot weeks) I thought I'd have another look at this.
There are quite a few changes, but they creep up on you unexpectedly.
There actually isn't anything new, but a lot more detail has been revealed by changing some of the instruments so they fall in different parts of the spectrum.
The original recording is still on SC, but here is the latest version.

Nice work, Will - I think I prefer the revised version.
Had a really stressful day in the office and feel somewhat rejuvenated after that, thank you
I was going to sit here and idly read the news but I think I'll boot up Cubase instead, so you have the honour (or potentially shame - anything could happen ;) ) of being partially responsible for that

I liked the earlier version but this is, I think, better still. It sounded a lot different until I played the earlier version again and heard the similarities. As I said before, it is worth all the effort.

But that would mean you'd achieved the hardest feat in all of music - you'd fin.. finagled... fandangled... there's a word for when a piece is completed, I'm sure it begins with F, but it's so unfamiliar to me I just can't recall it :tongue:Folderol wrote:I really think I should leave it alone now :)

Had you been inspired by the Jackson Pollock school, or was this work a spontaneous installation?
