You doing a remix? Sure. I'd love to hear where you'd take it... the only hurdle would be sampling/clearance/copyright. Can you drop me a line with more details?

We have any content yet Matt?

Come on people, get a pro remix done for free and one that will get emblazoned (took me a week of guidance from Em to learn how to write and pronounce that western word) across the magazine and sites.

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder that this isn't the best place to ask me questions, as I don't check the thread regularly. Contact details from the original post still apply:

"Anyway, if you wish to be considered for this, please drop me a line at mixrescue@soundonsound.com"

...and please specify whether you're looking for a remix (as in developing, say, a dance track from some parts of your song), or a re-mix — as in a traditional 'Mix Rescue' feature, helping you take the mix to where you feel it wants to be.

All the best,

Matt

Not at all — in fact, most of the tracks we work on are; that's what gives the column its 'rescue' name (though they're not all salvage jobs, by any means). The idea is to show people how a mix can be improved, but it's not an audio-editing or auto-tuning workshop, so ideally it'd be a musically competent track whose mix is letting it down, if you see what I mean.

Cheers,

Chris

Yeah, the column started out that way, and we're still very happy to take on amateur projects. Though of course we reserve the right to suggest that you go back and try to re-record certain sections if the salvage job looks too daunting ;)

The Mix Rescue column is now a mix of those sort of projects, and of more straight-forward mix jobs (those written by Neil Rogers generally fall into the latter category). The reason we added those is that we felt that the column had been giving the impression that you *should* be doing all of this corrective stuff in the mix stage, whereas in reality, on commercial projects many such problems would have been avoided further upstream, at the recording/programming/arranging stage. It's great that plug-ins can help you problem-solve such things, but we wanted also to give an impression of what mixing *should* be about when those first parts go as they should in the first place!

I'm also keen to add a few remix features under this guise — where someone does something like a dance remix of a rock or pop tune and writes up their approach, so candidates for that are welcome too. Just be clear about that when you write in.

Cheers,

Matt

You know Matt, now would be a good time to relaunch the Fiona Joy New Age stems remix project. I have all the stems and necessary info, and of course, all permissions in place.

Completely forgot about this thread!
I have actually finished a couple of things over the last year, and whilst I don't think they need a full-on mix rescue (you may disagree), I'm more than happy for people to have a play at remixes or sampling from them.
Solo EP: https://drewstephenson.bandcamp.com/alb ... land-sound
Solo single: https://drewstephenson.bandcamp.com/track/road-song

If any of that's of interest to anyone (not just Zukan :P) I can provide stems as required.

None of it is professionally recorded or mixed so it's probably more suited to practice material or some heavy sonic mangling, but if anything is of interest just shout.

Remixed. How about de-remixed. Take what's there and make less of. The remix scene is growing old now that everything is made on the computer and most new school music producers use lots of automation and endless amounts of processing.
