I think I’m nearly there,
Currently the catchy “Version 9.1.a mastering 4.1” may only need to be retitled “Version 9.1.b Mastering 4.2” with the obvious tweaks associated ……..

Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
I may have taken the afternoon off work to try to get it finished today. Had a really positive feeling about it when I started two hours ago, now stopped for a coffee and feeling decidedly less enthusiastic about things. Anyone in the Devon area want to pop over and attempt to mix a really badly constructed track?

I do feel for you Logarhythm. I cut the day short about an hour ago and if I never hear this again it will be too soon!

Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
It's ok, I'm now positively elated!
This is the first piece I've done having moved back to Cubase after years on Reaper. It turns out there are quite a few new bits to it since I last used it back at what I think was V5.
Such that, for example, if one was not paying sufficient attention, one could accidentally stick a noise gate across the master out without realising it then spend quite a while in a state of total panic about what has happened to quite a few hours work and why the sound keeps dropping out, when the PC had been running fine and there are no signs of processor-related issues. Froze all tracks, made no difference. Bounced to a wav, and still the horrible dropouts. Asked google, nothing useful. Asked the dog, also nothing useful. Checked synth and individual track settings what felt like 4000 times.
What a muppet. The sense of joy when I realised and undid it - must have accidentally added the gate in the new-fangled channel strip thing. What an idiot
I thought that I was also fed up of hearing this piece, but that first play through after removing that ******* gate was truly joyous
Alas the subsequent renditions reverted to the "oh god have I still not finished" variety, but that boost does at least persist...

I’ve just realised that the acronym for One Synth Challenge is, rather pleasingly, OSC

Ignore the post count, I have no idea what I'm doing...
Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
It is indeed D-Day. I'm excited.
Quick note for submissions : if you are using Soundcloud, then please remember to mark it as 'downloadable'. Once I've got it, then I'll PM you and you can then turn that off, but I'd like the best possible resolution for my uploads so I can do your track justice.
Come on lads - last push and we're there!!

Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
I did think of a title for a boingy bass-lead piece - "Jarre Wobble". But having no synth, limited time, and equally limited compositional abilities I will have to delay doing anything with it for at least a year or so.
Looking forward to hearing the submissions for this, the last one was cool - so ears at the ready!

My ambition: To one day have enough experience to answer technical questions on the SOS forums, as well as asking them
Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
Blimey. It goes quiet and then a bunch all arrive at once! Lucky I have my spreadsheet at the ready to track them.
Currently, we are up to 9 entries. Which is nice. I'll see if anyone pops any more in overnight and build the playlist some time tomorrow.
So congrats to those who have sumitted and 'you can make it' to anyone still beavering away.

Sadly/happily I had a job come up that pays the rent so I have to bow out too. Looking forward to hearing what you other geniuses come up with!

Brace youselves .....
It's time for the tracks to be revealed. In all, there are 10 this time. There's a strong analogue theme in this batch and a couple of plugins to keep things fresh. I think it's a nice mixture and everyone should hold their head high and feel offiicially 'chuffed'.

Enjoy!

Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
Ooh, these are great!
In the spirit of the competition, I have given these anonymous tracks some temporary titles inspired by what influences occurred to me as I listened, to help folk distinguish between them:
Track 1 - Chariots On Fire Blade Running
Track 2 - Roobarb and Custard's Tales of the Unexpected
Track 3 - Tonto's Expanding Bob Marley Band
Track 4 - Phantom Of The Operatic Extravaganza
Track 5 - Alka Seltzer to the Triumphant Rescue
Track 6 - Michael Flatley Cathedral Clog Dance
Track 7 - The Girl From Ipanematoid
Track 8 - Soft Cell Twinkletoes
Track 9 - Jetsons play Kraftwerk
Track 10 - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park
(just a bit of fun folks - not to be taken seriously)
I loved them all, and a lot of work has obviously gone into them. Cool!!!

I'm glad I had to bow out, no way would my entry have been that good!
Well done to all those who made it. They all sound great, and some were really outstanding!

Re: One Synth Challenge II - The Filter Strikes Back
Just had a first listen. Some very impressive work there.
I would suggest that if anyone is taking part and wants to do reviews of the other tracks, that they also review their own track... otherwise it makes it a bit obvious which it is
