Re: SynthFest UK - full details.
Decided against a table this year so I can wander and enjoy more things. Looking forward to the Dr Who theme talk and Novation's history of the polysynth presentation.
Also getting there early to secure myself a mug. Last year's is wearing well, but surely one day these will be valuable antiques...

You can buy a mug. And a t shirt. When you do, introduce yourself to the nice lady who sells them and you will get a pleasant surprise.. :)

Sorry I missed some of you on the saturday evening, by the time we'd done the load out, and then realised I'd left my car keys back at the hotel, and then walked back across town to pick it up, and etc. etc. etc.
Still, top day out, and I may even now be the owner of a synth. Or at least, bits of one... ;)

Re: SynthFest UK - full details.
There I was trying to be good and everything, and i was doing very well, but due to some divine external influence* I appear to have ended up with a Rakit Drum Synthesizer kit.
It's the DIY aspect that really tickles my fancy. :)
Thinking of doing a quickish build thread but not sure whether to do it in Synths or DIY?
* other possibilities are available

DIY, definitely.
Because if you do come up against any problems the audience in DIY are best qualified to offer support.
Looking forward to seeing this :)

Jolly nice food at the Lebanese restaurant we went to, but it was good to say hi even for the 20 seconds the encounter lasted :)
CV
PS currently wondering whether to lash out on one of those AE Modular mini synths I saw at the show.

Definitely, always good to put a face to a name, even if it turns out to be your twin brother CV... ;)ConcertinaChap wrote:blinddrew wrote:Sorry I missed some of you on the Saturday evening,

Cute, aren't they?
In the end I missed all the seminars (too busy chatting) but did come away with a mug & t-shirt combo, and a Keystep. There was some really good gear on show. Dare I say it, I was a bit blooped out by the end of the day, so I went for dinner with a friend who has no idea what synthesisers are. These people do exist, it seems...

Oh dear. Was Vivian pretending to be me again. Sorry about that.
Got a mug and a book. Might have got more but I had the Management Team with me.

Re: SynthFest UK - full details.
Shame I had to miss the Friday gathering, but meeting up for a meal and couple of drinks (heck, was I thirsty!) on Saturday was really good.
Really good to meet everyone. The exhibitors kept me busy, but I did manage to sneak away for the Dr Who feature.
There was some incredible kit there. I fell a little in love with the Deckard's Dream, and the Prophet X now has my attention. A small point, but the Stay keyboard stands that Korg were showing are a revelation - I'm having a couple of those.
Anyone that missed it... I did tell you! SynthFest is quite simply the best of its kind - and from what I heard from the exhibitors and attendees I'm not alone in this belief.
Obviously I didn't get away financially unscathed this year, but my outlay on the day was relatively modest. If only I hadn't had to buy a new laptop on Sunday... :headbang:

So am I, and I agree with Andy about placing your build in the DIY forum.
Just watched a few videos of the RAKIT DRUM SYNTH.
It seems incredibly versatile, and a prime candidate for sampling so you can create entire drum kits. Not sure about using it on its own though, although at £45 for the kit it does seem an absolute bargain :o

Scrub that - I've now got to the end of the above video, and am thinking of buying one myself :headbang:

Re: SynthFest UK - full details.
It was my first SF and yep it was well worth it.
Put some faces to names which was great :D
It's so good to be able to try things out and compare everything in one go and no one minded or hassled you in any way.
Hats off to the guy on the Roland stand for spending time showing me the TR8S (although not as I have only had the TR8 for 6 months) and the guys at Novation for the info on the Peak, dispelled some misconceptions!
It's funny in some instances it kind of confirmed my suspicions on some gear but others I had discounted I found I really like.
Note to self - have an idea of roughly how much things cost before trying them/ do not listen to very convincing talks by Genelec.

I've just added a Trueno synth (one of those analogue-synth-in-a-USB-stick jobbies) to that total because they're keeping their Synthfest offer of 15% off going until 20th October. Get one while they're hot!

Bought a Trueno myself. I'll be installing it some time today to give it a first try.

It was seeing yours at the restaurant gave me the idea. When I looked on their website and saw they were still giving the show price I couldn't resist. Will power, what's that?
