I don't know Cubase but I'd find some way of changing the level of the clip so that you don't have to keep changing the volume control whenever you switch to the reference and back.

Once you get to the mastering stage you can set the level of the reference back to normal (unless you deliberately want to go for a lower level).

You can adjust the level of the audio clip, or you can simply use Cubase's Gain control to turn it down. I use the latter method. You may need to switch on the 'Pre' part of the Cubase mixer if you can't see the Gain control.

Wot The Elf said. The 'Pre' section of the Cubase mixer is normally not shown in the Cubase default views, which is a great shame as it's very useful and apart from an input gain control (as on an analogue mixer) also includes high and low pass filters with various selectable slope values. I always have it turned on.

Hi
Well we have got Mr Punch, Elf's and a Wonk now! :o
Try and mix that!!! :headbang:

Seriously folks, I have turned the ref clip down and got the (a) and (b) going in the Cubase 10 control room.
Now I have to gets some body in the mix somehow.
I am happy with drum and the bass and the whole mix, but It lacks a little overall body to give It some more warmth.
I am trying all sorts of things as you can always go back to a pre- saved one.
I know where I want to go and It Is taking a little time as expected. I know Rome is not built in a day,
I have time on my side as now retired, so i do a little each day and keep up the keyboard practice.

All the best

I've never understood why Steinberg feel that (a very useful) part of their mixer should be hidden by default!

Hi
It is in the rack at top of cubase 10. dropdown just put a tick where you want and save . The same with cue for the control room and all other sections of the mixer
I think cubase does what Elf said because it free's up the Gui for more space.
Once I get through this learn curve ,i shall make templates.

Al the best
