Custom guitar cab near Manchester
I'm looking to have a custom built guitar combo cab built to house my 18 watt and V30 speaker. It has been in a 'borrowed' cab for too long and deserves a nice box. I can get one from 'Cabs By Chris' http://www.ampmaker.com/infocentre/thread-56.html but would prefer to buy locally so I can discuss he design face to face. Any suggestions for custom cab builders within 30 mins of the Trafford Centre, South Manchester?

A search throws up Stonedeaf in Oldham, https://www.stonedeaffx.com/cabinets
But their home page doesn't link to that page any more, so they may have concentrated on pedals. But it may be worth ringing or emailing to confirm. They may also know of other local builders.

I’m sure you know PMT on Regent Road near the Quays? They gave a guitar tech workshop inside - I don’t know if they build cabs but there’s probably a good chance they know someone that does ? The number for the workshop is 0161 877 4962
MA Amplification in Standish might also be worth a try (if they’re still in business - I haven’t been there for donkeys years).
I hope you find somewhere. Good luck!

Slightly over 30 mins travel
Possibly a bit pricey - but might be worth a call ?

I had one built to spec. in 38mm Japanese Cedar, with a CNC-cut baffle. There is surprisingly little to guitar cab design, as a trip to the Celestion website will convince you. You don't need a specialist, just a good joiner. Open back is easier.
The trickiest bit was the grille.
When I get the time, I will dig out the old 80s Celestion design manual and post a link.

Instant gratification is actually pretty good. It's fast as well.

Thanks Sam, I've built more than a few over the years, finishing the job to look professional is the bit I find hardest and I do want something that looks nice hence looking for a reputable pro to build it for me.

Fair enough. I got a saddle maker to do a nice leather handle, and added 'proper' amp corner pieces. It looks as least as good as the Mesa studio combo. Given four rounds of sanding and varnishing.
But yes, a pro would get there quicker.

I was going to go for Tolex (a classic Marshall 1x12 'Bluesbreaker' style combo clone). If I was going for a varnished cab those nice dovetails would be beyond my skill set anyway
