Re: Birthdays
No automatic cake icons have ever appeared on this version of the forum. You have to look at the bottom of the main forum index page to see birthdays. Or have SOS friends on Facebook which might tell you birthdays if people haven't opted to share DOB on their forum info.

You're right. I'm sure they were there about a week ago.

Re: Birthdays
Just to be sure, I've been checking every time I log in. Narry a burpday in sight. What's happening? First we lose the animated gifs, then it's the birthday cake, now it's birthday list. What will disappear next? :?

Re: Birthdays
Maybe its because to Forum software knows we're mostly old and couldn't care less about birthdays anymore?
If so, that was a good upgrade! ;)

Re: Birthdays
Possibly a GDPR requirement?
Though Facebook still shows them.

Re: Birthdays
Doubtful. In your account settings you have the choice over whether you want them reported or not - simply by whether you give a birthday entry.Wonks wrote:Possibly a GDPR requirement?

Re: Birthdays
I for one would be happy never to see birthdays again!
It irritates the &^%$ out of me that sites often request a BDate in order to register. If pressed I usually give April One and the robot is too stupid to realize I am only 6.
What genuine reason can these sites have for requesting such information?
In the words of the Old Soldier.."Tell 'em nothing but if you have to? Lie".
Dave.

Re: Birthdays
If it helps, it's my birthday today - only a routine one though, the next 'milestone' is next year

Re: Birthdays
Hi Folderol et al,
Hugh kindly brought this to my attention, so I've put my Sunday roast dinner to one side, and nipped into my office...
The list of Birthdays should definitely be there, and I've taken a look in the settings for the phpBB software we use, and both the "Allow birthdays" checkbox and "Allow birthdays to display in User Profile" options are ticked (aka checked).
So it feels like a bug's been introduced somewhere, and I will submit a bug report for our tech team to investigate and hopefully rectify on Monday.
BTW, as Zenguitar mentioned, there is no way for us to assign a birthday cake icon automagically to a celebrating member, and last time I checked the number of folks who've entered their birthday is a minuscule number, and a quick look-see tells me some of them are not exactly being truthful. Ahem...
For some reason I did think the birthday also displayed in the MEMBERS list, but it does not and I may be getting that confused with the early Infopop forum.
Anyways, we're on the case and hopefully the birthday list will appear once again some time on Monday.
cheers,
Ian

If you hadn't spotted the Birthdays already on the Forum Index page footer, they are back.
