Re: the latest Behringer-gate
I hope they do this one. It's hard to resist these little gems at these prices. Lovely stuff...

Also, a Behringer version of the PPG Wave 2.3?

What about a Behringer BBC Radiophonic Workshop that comes in its own Tardis so that's it's small enough to fit in your studio!

Great idea! It’s only a matter of time (and space)

But we’ve got to wait for Behringer to clone it before it was always available!

Re: the latest Behringer-gate
So I finally succumbed to trying out the model D in my friend’s studio. As much as I wanted to hate it, I have to say I’m pretty impressed. Sounds fantastic for the money, and better than the Roland / studio electronics copy.

Please bear in mind that this will be a design study only and we love to get your feedback before we decide how to move forward. We will be sharing our design in the next few days. Fasten your seatbelts.

We want to be absolutely clear that this a very complex synthesizer project and it is at a very early stage. It will take us a long time to complete, however we are committed to deliver.
Why are we showing you this project at such an early stage? We believe that including you in the design process from the very beginning while help us and the synthesizer community to create a better product - and that's all that matters to us.
Thank you for your participation and now let us hear your feedback... Uli

Now I like the look of that! So far that's the UBXa and DS80 that make it onto my list.

and it looks like it will have both the old preset sliders AND digital presets over MIDI/USB.

PID PDF, with one extra thing to glean from it is that it will have FULL MIDI implementation via CC#/NRPN.
And they will be doing a special version for "The Elf".
This will come with an hilariously oversized wallwart (so much so that it would take up 3 sockets in a socket strip, a very short cable (20cm), a custom DC connector that only this uses, and a system to detect whether the genuine PSU is being used and to not work if not, replacement PSU's will not be available! Plus the case for this version will be designed in such a way that there is no space for an internal PSU, or for the external one to be mounted inside.
The keyboard will also be reduced in size (to 12 VL-TONE style mini keys) and will no have any extra capabilities other than only note on/off (even via midi).

Re: the latest Behringer-gate
It certainly looks very interesting. The forced air cooling (at least two internal fans) is a slight concern, though, and the ribbon controller is only an octave and a bit wide instead of the lovely three-octave wide original, which I imagine will reduce it's playability and usefulness to some extent. And I'd love to know where they are planning to source a poly-AT keybed.

If it's anything like the DM12 then the fans are to help with temperature stability of internal components (reducing temperature based drift) and turning them off (which I am assuming will be possible) does no harm to the instrument.
As for the keyboard, Behringer will make their own, or so I would guess. According to Uli all they keybeds in their current synths/controllers are made/designed by them so I expect this to be no different.

I think that's always the case, isn't it?

Ah -- didn't realise they could be turned off (in the DM12), so that's sounds reassuring.

Now I didn't realise that either.
If Musicgroup builds a decent poly-AT keybed for this project, there could be some really great spin-offs in the way of master controller keyboards. That's an exciting prospect too!

Re: the latest Behringer-gate
I don't see the point at all of the mini sliders.
They are there in the CS80 as a compromise to store settings. This compromise won't exist in the new one (proper memories), so it seems like half the panel space used to set up four memories could be better used making the controls bigger and more spacious and for other features...
Seems a bit daft... :headbang:

Re: the latest Behringer-gate
I quite agree. Replicating the original four fader preset panels is completely pointless, thoughtless, and useless. A proper fast-access facility to the software memory presets would be a lot more practical and useful.

Agree on the mini-faders. There's absolutely no point in them.
Now... where do I place my order?...

looks like a beast!
Agree with everyone above about mini faders, it would be better with a full lenth ribbon controller.
Sacrilege but CS-80 has never been on my wish list
I just want them to get on with their OB-Xa and then I want a JP8 :protest:

Definitely. And, as there can now be many more than four memories, how about a display (even 16 x 2 would be better than nothing) so that the memories can be named?
