Acoustic reverberation reduction for an USB Mic in Windows

Postby Mihai_dmg » Fri May 17, 2019 6:13 pm

Hello,
I have a Blue Yeti microphone connected via USB to my laptop and my living room is empty with lots of reverberation. Is there any app that can help me reduce the tail while i am using the microphone?
The mic is used for Team Speak for games, and even with the implemented echo reduction and other stuff that TeamSpeak has, still there is same sort of reverberation going trough.
I was thinking to use some sort of gate, i saw an app called NoiseGator, didn't used it yet. Well all of them are gates after all, but i was thinking you guys will know some standalone app that i can before ( as signal flow path) going in any other app or software.
The mic has an preamp build in, so i can boost gain, but still it does catch a bit of tail.
In my opinion a gate will do the trick, do you guys know some standalone gate app for Windows?
I put a sound sample of the room, so you guy will make an idea about it.

Thank you in advance!

The simplest thing will be to try and reduce the distance between you and the mic. That will raise the signal to room ratio significantly - is that possible?

I am already sitting at the closest way possible. But that will not remove the tail that will come after i speak.

Another suggestion is to drape a duvet or even a curtain over a boom mic stand behind you to reduce the reverb in the room.

Thanks for answer, i will do some room treatment, seems the only thing that can reduce it. I tried this NoiseGator, but is not that great. Already TeamSpeak is reducing it a bit , so with a little room treatment will be fine.
Thanks for answers!

Treating the problem at source is always going to be the best bet.
