Genelec 8030 disassembly

Postby BobTheDog » Sun May 26, 2019 11:17 am

Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any experience of disassembling these speakers?

One of the power switches has popped out on one side, from what I can see a piece of plastic has sheared, looks like some super glue would possibly fix it.

There isn’t a lot of info on the interweb that I can find :(

Cheers

Andy

Not disassembled, but I did assemble one at the factory once. There shouldn't be anything tricky about it. As I recall there are long bolts at the back in deep recesses which hold the rear half of the case to the front. With that removed you can access everything you need to...

Thanks Hugh,

I was reading somewhere there is some sort of air seal and the pressure needs to be maintained, do you know anything about this?

I don't know about the Genelecs but some speakers have a gasket around the front panel to seal them and you may need to tighten the bolts evenly to maintain the seals.

Ah -- I see what you mean! I had visions of some internal pressurised air bubble...

Yes, there's a seal between the two halves, of course, and you need to be careful with it to avoid damage during both disassembly and reassembly... but it's no harder than tightening a cylinder head on a fresh gasket and engineering competence should suffice -- which I presume is already in place if you're contemplating disassembly in the first place!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the info.

Good to know it's just a seal, no worries on the competence as I have a nice club hammer for this sort of job :)

I'll let you know how it goes...

Thanks

Hi Guys,

It is apart, here is what they look like inside:

The switch seems to be a pretty standard DS-060, so I'm going to order one and just replace it rather than trying to fix the switch...

edit: how are we meant to link to images now, tried ImgBB and Imgur with Img tags and it isn't working.

Imgur should work but make sure you're linking to the image not the hosting page, i.e. make sure the link ends with a .jpg or .png or whathaveyou.
