Recommended PC Providers?

Postby Ken P » Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:12 pm

I'm thinking my next machine will be a Windows PC. Does anyone have any recommendations for audio PC providers, rather than off-the-shelf?

I'm looking for something to replace an ageing, but still going strong, Mid-2012 MBP, 8GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 2.8Ghz dual core i7. Don't mind a desktop form factor.

Scan spring immediately to mind. Some very good recommendations from others on here and Pete K from Scan is a regular contributer as well.
If / when my current machine decides that it can't go on, I will most likely be lobbing my pennies their way.

+1 for Scan.

Never have I known a large company offer such excellent one-on-one personal service and backup if and when required.

Last two of mine were from Scan - very happy with both.

P·S.
They aren't the cheapest, but you will get exactly what you want.

Can I just throw my hat in the ring for 'Chillblast'. The last two PCs they have built for me have been rock solid. They've been very good at answering my somewhat arcane pre-sale questions and have responded well to particular build requests; as an example, the last time I bought one, I asked them to to ensure there was enough space to re-use a couple of hard drives I already had. Not only did they do that, they (without request or charge) pre-cabled the empty bays. They also, refreshingly, supplied the machine with an absolute 'vanilla' version of Windows - not a hint of bloatware in sight.

Big plus 1 for Scan. Pete is massively helpful here for everyone not just his customers and to be fair his advice is always impartial.

Another +1 for Scan 3XS. Replaced my studio PC 2.5 yrs ago and has been faultless.

I have been happy with Chillblast too for general PCs but Scan, I suspect, have more expertise in matching components together specifically for best audio performance (compatibility and low latency)

Another happy scan man here. They actually talked me out of buying stuff I didn't need.

Guitars are like partners. You know within 10 seconds of picking one up whether or not it's a keeper.

Love you guys madly, but how about us poor relations in the US, or elsewhere in the world?

My 12 year old Cool Tech studio PC, lovingly upgraded over the years, appears to be hors de combat. Any Yankee readers have suggestions of where to get a replacement? 2U/4U rackmount is convenient but I'll run a desktop unit if it is quiet and will do the job.

Thanks kindly

Pete, I know just enough about what I think I need for my new Scan PC to be dangerous.... Can someone go through the configurator build step by step with me over the phone so I can clarify what some of the various options mean in terms of my needs?

Came here to see if there were any other good companies for audio PCs these days beside Scan (not that I've ever had a problem with Scan).

...Think I'll stick with Scan. :)

My Scan PC arrived 8 days ago. I went for an off the shelf model (but optimised for music). I have to say that I'm very happy and it's highlighted just hoe temperamental my old, high street, machine was.

There's a couple who are able to get you though it, but if not they'll hunt me down and transfer the call I'm sure.
