I've just been resurrecting a sick old Macbook Pro, model A1229.
I've managed to get it working again, but it's clear that 2GB of RAM is really hobbling it.
Can anyone advise what RAM I need to get hold of to get it up to max (6GB, I believe?). And maybe a source of cheap RAM? Even better, does anyone have another sick MBP I could Frankenstein?
When fixed, this computer will be going to help one of the causes I support.

I've always found Crucial are reasonably priced, and their website has a online app which will check your computer (assuming you use it to go to the website) and work out your best options for a RAM upgrade.

I had some bad experience with Crucial personally - might just be my bad luck but the local Apple reseller also has a down on them and recommend Kingston.

These guys are very good at identifying compatible parts. US company though may be helpful.
I recently put 8Gb of their branded RAM into my iMac and its been running flawlessly.

Take my advice, I'm not using it.
Re: Old Macbook Pro RAM
Thanks guys. I decided to put my hand in my pocket and go for some secondhand RAM taken from a working example of the same model. The computer, when cleaned up, should raise the recipients more money that I've spent, and that makes me smile.
