That has always sounded odd to me, after all what are un-opposable thumbs? Thumbs that always agree with you?

The inter web who never lies said thusly -
The panda’s thumb isn’t actually a thumb; it’s an elongated wrist bone that opposes the five true fingers of the panda’s hand, allowing it to grip and manipulate the delicate bamboo stalks that form the majority of its diet

So opposable non-thumbs that are thumbs. So where was I going with this? Obviously nowhere fast. I’ll just get my toque and go. . . .

It is tautology, but for those people who don't understand that thumbs are thumbs because they are opposable, then it helps provide a fuller picture.

What Caeser did defined the outcome. his thumbs were un-opposable

I'm glad someone picked up on the subtle hint about the one bit of panda trivia I know. :)

The one in the book involves a restaurant and small arms fire but as we dont have much panda related gun violence in the UK yours might work better...
