Some words aren’t very clear in your question, you’ll also need to post a sound clip.
Was it good quality when you were recording but not when editing?

See... this is what happens when you start poking about in Forums you last looked at many, many months ago...

(New readers: I'm a very old sweat 'lapsed' poster here)

I stand to be corrected, but I think the NTG2 is known for its comparatively low output which can cause problems on some recorders.

A few things to clarify:

* Are you on battery power or phantom power?
* Are you plugging in to an XLR input ot the 1/8" (3.5mm) input?

For best results, run on phantom power into an XLR input. And don't run the recorder gain too 'hot'. You can always make up the gain in post production when you're syncing to the video.

There will be some noise and ambience. You may have unrealistic expectations. There is a big difference between low noise and no noise. Yes an audio sample would help.

I use an NTG1 and an H4N at work quite often and I'm afraid that you're not going to get an outside recording with clear content without getting some hiss and ambient noise. That's my experience at least.
There are steps to make sure you're optimising what you can capture:
1) make sure you're recording at 24 bit.
2) leave plenty of headroom.
3) get the mic as close as you can to the source.
But you're still going to get some noise.
You can try and reduce it with a noise removal tool of some kind, or try and mask it with other effects, but you're not going to get something to compare with an indoor recording with a large diaphragm capacitor.

Mind you, I'm just a beginner here, someone more experienced (and there are plenty on this thread already) would doubtless be able to get a better result.

Ignore the post count, I have no idea what I'm doing...

I would suggest you post an example of your recording AND also an example of the type of recording you are trying to achieve.
