Updating Logic Pro X from 10.2.4, why does it seem it won't update?

Postby Marco Mastrocola » Sat May 23, 2020 11:20 pm

Hi

Now that Logic Pro X is on version 10.5 I have realised my MacBook Pro with High Sierra can't update from my version. My MacBook can't have an OS higher than High Sierra.

So, I need to upgrade to the highest version of Logic Pro X that my system can take. If I'm not mistaken that will be version 10.4.7? How do I update to this version?

I have tried updating from the apple store but it just doesn't seem to be doing anything. How can I tell if it is updating?

Minimum requirement is OSX 10.14.6

Think you need to update your OS, back it up first!

It was 10.4.8 before 10.5.
If you can’t run Mojave on your hardware, I think that’s it I’m afraid. You could drop a note to Apple to see if they will make 10.4.8 available for a High Sierra customer, but don’t hold your breath!

There are a a number of download websites offering 10.4.8 updates

Some of them are the usual dodgy pirate software sites but there seem to be plenty of places just hosting the genuine update dmg. Perhaps worth a try? If you have a backup to roll back to it probably couldnt hurt

I don’t know what version the OP is on, but 10.4.4 was probably the most robust version, I wouldn’t be in a rush to update that to 10.4.8 from a potentially dodgy website! Personally I think Apple ought to offer the most up to date version compliant with your hardware limit.

They were quite helpful to me trying to install a prev version of osx so perhaps they're getting a bit better at supporting older versions. My suggestion was definitely the last resort

The App Store update process can be a bit finicky for some people.

Back up your old Logic app, then delete it from your system. Run the App Store, and try to update (in some cases, if this doesn't work, go to "Purchase" it and it will start to download).

The App Store will give you the last version compatible with your OS, so should give you 10.4.8.

The update from the official apple store is not working, it just keeps me waiting and looking like it is downloading but as far as I can tell it is not downloading anything.

I'm running High Sierra, my processor is 2 GHz Intel Core i7. Can it take version 10.4.8?

I'm tempted to install from the download available from this site: http://oceanofdmg.com/download-apple-logic-pro-x-10-4-8-for-macos-x-23407358166/
Is it wise to do so?

After doing what I suggested?

Yes, which is why I said above it should give you 10.4.8.

To download Apple software from sources other than Apple? Not really, no, I wouldn't consider it "wise"...

I thought it didn't work, I did that but at first it wouldn't open. Now it is opening and it is downloading additional sounds and loops, so I think it has done the trick.
