Windows 10 may 2020 update: can I still run my 32 bit plugins?

Postby Guitarking » Wed May 27, 2020 7:39 am

Hi everyone,

A new update is being announced.
Will this mean I can't use my Altiverb 6 which is 32 bit anymore?

Not heard about this. Will be a bit frustrating if that's the case as I've got a couple of projects on the go that still use them.
Guess I need to get them finished. :(

Looking at the news they appear to be stopping system build partners from being able to sell the 32bit OEM edition on anything prebuilt. There doesn't otherwise appear to be any kind of change to functionality for the end-user.

32 bit plug-ins run fine on 64 bit Windows. The main problem is will your DAW host still work with them - and how long will it continue to work with 32 bit plug-ins?

That's one reason why I'm still so keen on Reaper - as well as the vast majority of 64-bit plug-ins, it always transparently hosts my few remaining 32-bit ones (in my case including Altiverb 6 as well), and even a few DirectX ones, all without any hassle at all.

Same with Cakewalk - rock solid 32 bit plugs support.

I'd hate to lose the VOS plugins and the Sonitus gate (DirectX), and they aren't going to be 64 bits ever!
