Hi,
In the start of the song FINNEAS used iMessage sound from iOS, the sound is royalty free? Can I use it?

Almost certainly not, no. When it comes to such things either the artist is happy to give a huge company like Apple the rights to use their work in exchange for promotion or Apple will have paid a lot to use the artist's material.

Either way a royalty free license for normal use is incredibly unlikely.

There's nothing in the YouTube video or accompanying text to suggest that the song or that presentation is royalty-free.

It's a notoriously complex area with a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about the place. It's also compounded by different rules applying to a degree in the States and the UK.

Because I'm currently working on producing weekly vids that need a lot of specialised music I've recently done a lot of research into this - particularly with regard to online videos.

Bottom line: in almost all cases you'll need specific permission from all the copyright users to be able to use a song in any other form/medium.

There are a lot more 'ifs and buts' but in direct answer to your question: Almost certainly (99%) you can't use it.

Depending on how you want to use it, it could be that if you buy the song and get a PRS licence then you're good to go. But it does depend on what you want to do with the song...

It seems unlikely to me that Apple would come after you for using the iMessage bleep (unless it formed a substantial part of the composition). But if you are concerned, you could make your own sound which is similar but different.

But no. Never assume anything is royalty free, unless it specifically says so in the license you buy to use something royalty free. (Royalty free, by the way, is not the same as free.)
