Hello!

Probably a very basic headphone question, but I just bought a pair of DT 1990 Pro from Beyerdynamic, that I intend to use for mixing in my home studio, where I'm using a Mackie Onyx 1620i mixer as audio interface.

The DT 1990's require 250 ohms and according to the Mackie mixer's manual the headphone output is only "25Ω". I'm very confident that the headphone output will be able to give me enough volume (that channel is loooouuud), but will this affect the dynamic range of the DT1990's? Or the overall frequency response?

I've been reading on hifi forums about possible amps to use, but I want to make sure that I don't get an amp that colours the sound too much, as the idea of course is to have a flat "non-biased" playback for my mixing projects.

Any suggestions on wether to get an amp and if so any recommendations? Or should I be alright just using the Mackie mixer headphone output?

I think you'll be fine with the Mackie. Only look at an external amp if you're not happy with what you get from that.

They don't need 250 Ohms... They present a load of 250 Ohms... Which is an ideal load for a mains-powered headphone amp just like the one in your Mackie.

So save your money and your gear lust... Your new headphones will work perfectly with your Mackie.

Mackie and Apollo produce extremely well designed and manufactured products at reasonable prices. They don't need their fuses replaced with audiophile ones or their capacitors replaced with black gate ones or their edges painted with a green felt pen.

Anyone in this thread used BD 1990 pros with apogee duet. Will I need to get a headphone amp or will the apogee be sufficient? Many thanks.
