The irony is that he's almost certainly replacing top session drummers with samples...played by Slate's top session drummers. I bloody hate saxes, tenor saxes in particular, but only when they’re on their own in an arrangement... like when they’re supposed to sound all sexy and sophisticated but sound like a US sitcom theme tune. But I love them in a nice tight Stax-type section. Odd really.
